Dane Co. Sheriff’s Office: Passenger helps pull SUV off road amid driver overdose
MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - A passenger managed to bring the SUV he was in to a halt over the weekend when he realized the driver was suffering an overdose and losing consciousness behind the wheel, the Dane County Sheriff’s Office reports.
The agency explained a 39-year-old Friendship man was driving in the Town of Westport when he allegedly overdosed and became unresponsive.
The passenger, a 27-year-old Madison man, told officials he pulled the SUV safely off the road and into a driveway.
Waunakee Police Department officers arrived just before midnight on Sunday to County Highway Q and administered several doses of Narcan to the driver, who was unresponsive.
The Sheriff’s Office indicated the Friendship man regained consciousness and an ambulance took the man to a local hospital.
Officials noted both men were taken to the Dane County Jail after the incident. The driver faces a fourth offense of operating while intoxicated, as well as bail jumping and warrants. The passenger faces a felony bail jumping charge.
