BELOIT, Wis. (WMTV) - Maple syrup season is here, a little earlier this year.

Welty Environmental Center is gearing up to host their 16th annual Maple Sugar Festival on Saturday, February 24. The festival will run from 8 a.m. to noon and offer a variety of hands-on activities for attendees.

From hiking through sugarbush, to tapping trees for sap, the festival is followed by a pancake and sausage breakfast. It is recommended that attendees bring their own utensils and mugs for coffee and hot cocoa.

“Of course there is breakfast, there are hikes to the maple sugar tree to see it being tapped, there are some outdoor demos, the evaporator,” said Welty Environmental Center Executive Director Brenda Blakan. “Also you can try and drill your own hole in a tree to set a spile and then we will have a lot of things going on indoors too.”

Breakfast will be $7 for adult-members, $10 for adult non-members, and $5 for children between 3 and 12 years old. Children 2 and under are free.
