MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - Two people are hurt after Madison Police responded to a shooting Sunday night.

One of the people has been released from the hospital. The other remains in critical condition, police say.

According to MPD, the call came in at 10:46 p.m. Sunday, and officers responded to the area of Andrew Way and Trafalgar Pl on Madison’s east side.

There, police say a driver and a passenger began shooting out of their car into a crowd of people. Someone in the crowd then returned fire.

Emergency responders sent two people to the hospital, and MPD believes they were hurt from gunshot wounds.

MPD says callers reported hearing as many as 20 shots. More than 20 shells were then found on the scene

Officers also found vehicles that had been hit by gunfire.

Part of the area of Andrew Way and Trafalgar Place was shut down into Monday morning but eventually cleared, according to a release.

As of 11 a.m., no one is in custody for the incident. MPD’s Violent Crimes Unit is leading the investigation.

This marks the third shooting where someone was hurt or killed in the span of three days in Madison. A man was shot and killed on Williamson St early Friday morning, and at least nine gunshot victims went to the hospital early Sunday morning.
