MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - There will soon B a new series of license plates in Wisconsin.

Wisconsin Department of Transportation announced Thursday that after more than 4.7 million letter and number combinations starting with the letter A, it’s time for the “B” series to take over.

DMV Administrator Tommy Winkler said the DMV is proud to roll out these credentials to Wisconsin drivers as they move from point A to point B.

“Drivers can ‘B’ on the lookout for the new license plates when they begin rolling out statewide this month,” Winkler said.

The DMV estimates that after the first batch of B plates hit the roads, starting with BAA, it will take approximately seven years and millions of combinations to go through them all.

Wisconsin issues over 600,000 new license plates each year. The A plates have been issued for nearly eight years.

Up until April of 2017, all license plates in Wisconsin had six characters. The current Wisconsin license plates have seven characters, which creates about 100 million combinations. WisDOT notes the letters I, O and Q are not included in the combinations because of their resemblance to numbers.
