MercyHealth East Clinic employees strike at Wisconsin State Capitol
MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - Wisconsin lawmakers joined labor leaders on Thursday in front of the State Capitol to address the nurses’ strike at MercyHealth’s East Clinic.
Over 130 workers have been on strike since July 2 after a month and a half of negotiations between UAW Local 95 Union and MercyHealth.
Labor leaders said MercyHealth Management has refused to move on patient and employee safety issues.
“We’ve kept and we’ve held the line,” said Enrique Casiano, chairperson for UAW Local 95. “Day after Day, week after week, we’ve stood in the heat, in the rain and on the picket line with the same grit and sacrifice we bring to every patient and every shift.”
Nurses said they are striking for better working conditions, pay, and benefits.
MercyHealth has not since commented on the strike since their initial statement from early July:
“To protect Mercyhealth East’s patients and partners, Mercyhealth will implement a strategic plan to continue providing excellent care to our community. There will be no disruption in patient care.”
