‘The Simpsons’ kills off longtime character after 35 seasons
(Gray News) -“The Simpsons” killed off one of the show’s longest recurring characters in the latest episode.
Alice Glick, the organist at the fictional Springfield’s First Church, died during a sermon in the seventh episode of the show’s 37th season. The episode, titled “Sashes to Sashes,” aired on Nov. 16.
Glick regularly appeared on the show for 35 seasons and was originally voiced by the late Cloris Leachman. She was later voiced by Tress MacNeille.
The character first appeared in season 2 of “The Simpsons,’ in the episode ”Three Men and Comic Book," according to E! News.
This is not the first time Glick has died in the show.
According to People, Glick appeared to have died in season 22 when the character was attacked by a Robopet. She then reappeared in the following seasons, sometimes alive and occasionally as a ghost.
This time, however, the show’s executive producer said she’s permanently dead.
“In a sense, Alice the organist will live forever, through the beautiful music she made,” Tim Long told People in a statement. “But in another, more important sense, yep, she’s dead as a doornail.”
Glick’s death was at the center of the episode’s plot.
Upon her death, it was discovered that she had left her estate to fund a new music program at Springfield Elementary School. But a suggestion to use the money for a music festival instead led Lisa Simpson to encourage her brother Bart to run for student council president and honor Glick’s final wishes.
