Wisconsin star guard John Blackwell entering transfer portal, NBA draft
MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - Wisconsin guard John Blackwell is set to enter the transfer portal while going through the NBA draft process, he confirmed in an Instagram post on Monday.
“This was one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever had to make because my experience here has been nothing short of incredible,” Blackwell said. “The work I’ve put in alongside the guidance and direction I’ve received from Coach Gard and his staff has helped me grow into a player I didn’t know I could become.”
Blackwell thanked his fans and said Madison will always be a second home for him.
The 6-foot-4 guard earned third-team All-Big Ten selection honors and had spectacular season on the Badgers, averaging 19.1 points.
Blackwell had a season high of 34 points in the Badgers’ game against Washington on March 12.
According to Wisconsin Athletics, he ranks 11th on the UW all-time scoring list with 1,505 points.
The transfer portal for basketball opens on Tuesday.
