MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - A new Hoffman’s two-toed sloth has swung her way over to the Henry Vilas Zoo.

Henry Vilas Zoo said Thursday that 30-year-old Nentas was brought to the Madison zoo from Milwaukee County Zoo to focus in on specialized care for her.

Zoo officials said Nentas has a complex medical history, including a recent finding of carcinoma on her tongue. That was removed, and the Henry Vilas Zoo team will now monitor her for any complications or regrowth.

Animal Curator Beth Petersen said they are appreciative of the folks at the Milwaukee County Zoo.

“During her time there, she received excellent veterinary and animal care that helped stabilize her condition and prepare her for transfer,” Petersen said.

Zoo officials said she may remain stable for months or even years, depending on how she responds to care.

Henry Vilas Zoo visitors may see Nentas if she gets used to her new environment, and as long as her health and comfort levels are good.

Nentas will live in the free-flight area of the Aviary.
