Trip to state will be a trip down memory lane for Dodgeville coach Pat Reilly
Reilly played on the last Dodgeville team to make state back in 1963
MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - Dodgeville has made their way back to state for the first time since 1963 and will play St. Croix Falls on Tuesday.
The last time the Dodgers went to state, Dodgeville head coach Pat Reilly was on that team.
“We were great friends and we did a lot of things together,” Reilly said. “I lost some really good friends already that have passed away and I just miss them. I’m going to be thinking about them a lot when we’re up there because that was a great time for all of us.”

This will be the Dodgers’ fourth appearance at state for spring baseball. Dodgeville made previous appearances at state in 1949, 1962 and 1963.
For Reilly, this will be his first trip to state in a coaching career that has spanned almost five decades.
“I always get excited when it’s game time,” Reilly said. “I don’t do cartwheels anymore, so you won’t see me doing the Ozzie Smith special out there, but I do, I do get excited every game. I’m just there for the kids. I just want them to do well and I want them to do so well. I want this to be a wonderful experience for these kids. Whatever happens, happens. If we win, we win. If we don’t win, we don’t win. We’re going to go out and play our best and we’re going to enjoy the ride.”
The winner of the Dodgeville versus St. Croix Falls semifinal will face the winner of Marathon and Cedar Grove-Belgium in the championship game on Thursday.
