“It’s heartbreaking,” Highland family farm in ruins after storms
MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - Wednesday’s storms left properties along County Road P in Highland heavily damaged.
Michelle Peterson, whose family farm was hit, said the storm moved in quickly.
“The rain got so heavy that we couldn’t even see right outside the window,” Peterson said, “the whole thing probably took about 10 or 15 minutes.”
In the aftermath, Peterson said her family immediately checked their livestock, which were all safe from the storm. But the damage to their property was significant: including fallen trees around the farm, and a 50-year-old shed built by her husband and father-in-law, destroyed.
“It’s heartbreaking,” Peterson said.
Damage extended beyond the farm, including Otter Creek church and it’s cemetery, along with additional damage to nearby homes. County workers have been working since Wednesday night to clear the road of debris, and Peterson said the damage to their farm will take years to fix.
