Janesville Police arrest woman with rifle

JANESVILLE, Wis. (WMTV)--- According to Janesville Police, officers arrested a 55 year old armed woman Saturday afternoon.
On July 1st 2017, at 1:58 pm officers from the Janesville Police Department responded to 2614 King Street on Janesville’s south side for the report of an armed subject.
Responding officers quickly learned that Karla Kaplan was intoxicated and inside the residence armed with a rifle. Officers secured the area around the residence and established a command post to manage the incident. Officer Melton from the Crisis Negotiation Team and Officer Erlien from the Crisis Intervention Team responded to establish communication.
The other residents were removed from the home during this process. Officers negotiated for approximately 20 minutes. They were able to convince Karla Kaplan to exit the residence unarmed. The suspect emerged from the residence with only a cell phone in her hand. Officers directed her towards an arrest team to be taken into custody.
The investigation revealed that Kaplan was intoxicated and involved in a domestic violence related incident at the home. She armed herself with a loaded .30 caliber rifle. There were no reported injuries during the incident. The weapon was seized as evidence. She will eventually be held at the Rock County Jail for charges.
Kaplan's charges include Reckless endangering safety / Domestic Violence Related, and Intoxicated use of a Firearm / Domestic Violence related.
