2 suspects charged with arson, killing of man found dead in Juneau Co.
MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - Two people have been charged in the death of a man whose body was found in rural Juneau County last week.
Donald Dalberg, 47, of Grand Marsh, is charged with first-degree intentional homicide in connection with the killing of 57-year-old Floyd A. Burdick of Grand Marsh, according to a criminal complaint. Dalberg was also charged with arson as party to a crime in connection with the murder.
Crystal Teumer, 27, of Grand Marsh faces charges of both mutilating a corpse and arson as party to a crime.
Both Dalberg and Teumer also face multiple charges of felony bail jumping.
On January 18, the Juneau Co. Sheriff’s Office received a report of a deceased person around 8:40 a.m. on County Highway M, near Oakridge Trail parking area in Cutler Township. The caller reported finding a body that appeared to have been burned and left in the snow, according to a criminal complaint.
A few hours prior to finding the body, deputies responded to a reported vehicle fire about four miles away from where the body was recovered. The vehicle was found in the township of Clearfield, and deputies were able to retrieve a license plate number from the car, which was later traced back and found to have belonged to the victim.
In an interview with detectives, Teumer stated she, Burdick and Dalberg were driving around together in Burdick’s SUV on Jan. 18, according to the criminal complaint. Teumer told law enforcement that Burdick was driving, and that she saw a bright flash and heard a loud bang. Then, the criminal complaint goes on to describe Teumer heard two more loud bangs and saw two more bright flashes, and at that time she realized Dalberg had shot Burdick three times in the head. Teumer said at that point, she had to grab the steering wheel to keep the vehicle on the road.
After she witnessed Dalberg shoot Burdick, Teumer claims Dalberg got into the driver’s seat, pushing Burdick into the passenger seat, and then threw Burdick’s cell phone and a gun out the window. Then, after driving for some time, Teumer stated they pulled into a driveway, where they got stuck in the snow, and Dalberg dragged Burdick’s body out of the vehicle and tried to cover it with snow.
Teumer explained that after that, she and Dalberg drove in separate vehicles to a rural area north of New Lisbon, where she observed Burdick’s vehicle start on fire. The criminal complaint goes on to state that Teumer and Dalberg then got into the other vehicle and the two drove to a nearby Kwik Trip to buy more gasoline. Then, the complaint says they returned to the location where they dropped off Burdick’s body, at which point Teumer reported seeing a fire start in the ditch where his body was.
Both Teumer and Dalberg appeared in court Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. by video appearance. Dalberg’s cash bond was set at $1 million. His next court appearance is set for Jan. 31. Teumer had a cash bond set at $50,000. Her next court date is scheduled for February 14 at 9 a.m.
