No specifics available if any Wisconsin employees affected by NOAA cuts
GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) - Hundreds of weather forecasters and employees for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, or NOAA are being let go in a first wave of DOGE cuts.
Federal workers say meteorologists who forecast at National Weather Service offices across the country are included in those cuts. The first round of cuts were probationary employees.
The National Weather Service has about 375 probationary employees total. NOAA will be doing two rounds of cuts, one for 500 employees, and the other 800.
Action 2 News reached out to the National Weather Service for specifics about the number of those affected in Wisconsin and received this statement:
“Per long-standing practice, we are not discussing internal personnel and management matters. NOAA remains dedicated to its mission, providing timely information, research, and resources that serve the American public and ensure our nation’s environmental and economic resilience. We continue to provide weather information, forecasts and warnings pursuant to our public safety mission.”
