LG recalls nearly 500,000 portable air conditioners

(NBC NEWS) -- Nearly half a million LG portable air conditioners are being recalled due to a fire hazard.

The recall involves three models of the tan/white 7,000 and 8,000 BTU LG portable air conditioners with the LG logo on the front. The model numbers are LP0711WNR, LP0813WNR, and LP0814WNR.

They units can overheat and cause a fire. LG Electronics has received four reports of fires that have caused $380,000 in property damage. No injuries have been reported.

Home Depot and other stores nationwide sold the portable air conditioners from February 2011 through August 2016.

Consumers should contact LG to schedule a free repair at an authorized service center.
