Weekend events to check out in Dane County this weekend
MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - With Juneteenth and Father’s Day coming up, there will be plenty of events for everyone to enjoy this weekend.
Rob Gard of Destination Madison highlights some fun activities to check out in the Madison area.
Sun Prairie Mural Fest
The Sun Prairie Mural Fest begins Thursday night and runs until June 27.
“It’s a great celebration of art in Sun Prairie, so a combination of professional artists and community artists,” Gard said. “It wraps up a week from Saturday with the reveal of all the murals.”
Thursday’s event begins in Dream Park with food, live music and a community mural painting.
Harry Whitehorse International Wood Sculpture Festival
Set along the shores of Lake Monona, 13 international artists will create large-scale wood sculptures live on-site at San Damiano Park.
The event honors Ho-Chunk sculptor Harry Whitehorse as the festival highlights Indigenous perspectives while fostering cultural exchange and community connection.
The free event will run from June 19 to June 27 with the opening ceremony starting at 5 p.m. on Friday.
“There’s a really interesting Ho-Chunk ceremony to start the festivities and that continues for a week,” Gard said.
Big Gay PRIDE Market
From Friday, June 19 to Sunday, June 21, a market celebrating pride month will be happening at the Alliant Energy Center.
The event will feature queer artists and crafters, informative programs, comedy, drag bingo and a pageant.
Friday will be an adult-only ticketed market, Saturday will be a full day of shopping and Sunday will be a mask-required market for those who have health issues or want to be mask safe.
“You can really make that PRIDE Market what you want over the next three days,” Gard said.
Saturday and Sunday will be free for all ages.
Craftsman & Cocktails
Join the J. Henry & Sons team and many other craft vendors this Saturday for a day of shopping, sipping and enjoying locally made products.
Wander the scenic grounds as you shop for handcrafted local goods and sample J. Henry’s award-winning whiskies.
“You can get your dad a Father’s Day gift, have him pick it out, or you can have some bourbon out in the farm,” Gard said.
There will be cocktails, live music and food.
The event begins at 11 a.m. and runs until 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 20 at J. Henry & Sons Farm.
